France Day Five

I woke up this morning to the sound of rain lighting falling on the roof and windows of my second floor apartment.  It was deliciously cozy to curl up in bed and sleep in for a bit...but of course remembering that I'm in France got me up and going sooner rather than later.  Nancy and John set out for a walk as soon as the sprinkles went away, but I elected to stay home, puttering around and pretending that I live here.  When they returned, we set out for Saint Hippolyte, a nearby village, where we spent some time exploring.  We stopped for lunch at a small winestub that seemed to be serving the most people in town, and it was definitely worth it. Plain Alsatian fare at its best: ham, potato dishes, soup, and we topped it off with homemade plum sorbet with plum eau du vie!

We met these two charming golden retrievers at a winery down the street from the winestub. The female greeted us, but the male continued to lay on the floor, snoozing.

On the way back to Riquewihr, we stopped at a seasonal fruit cooperative.  They had quite a few plums, as well as many kinds of apples.

Back home, we did a bit more walking up and down the cobblestone streets. A vendor was making homemade chips on a skewer, which looked quite good!

This is the door to where we are staying.  The home was built in 1613.
I might have forgotten to mention that we made another trip to Christine Ferber's shop, where more jam was purchased, as well as a few other things...such as this box of little bites of bliss.
Thanks for coming along! See you tomorrow!
