Baxter

Baxter went to be with the angel dogs on Saturday.  He was a beautiful eleven-year-old Golden Retriever, who belonged to my cousin, Missy.  Actually, maybe it was the other way around.  Missy belonged to him.  Oh, he had her wrapped around his paw; there wasn't much she wouldn't do for that big old dog.  Baxter came from an abusive home, and when Missy rescued him, she made sure he would never have to worry about that sort of thing ever again.  It was quick at the end.  He stopped eating, and couldn't get around very well.  The doctor diagnosed inoperable cancer, and the next day he was gone.  The suddenness was very hard to take, and I know it'll be a long time before that heavy-hearted sadness starts to lift.  In the meantime, here are some good memories for you, Missy. Sleep well, Baxter Boy.  You were so loved.
