Asheville - Day One

Krista and I flew into Greenville, South Carolina this morning, rented a car, and headed north to Asheville for a week's getaway.  It was cloudy and cool, but still a gorgeous day.  We took a detour at Hendersonville to check out the town.  While driving around a residential area, a white squirrel ran across a yard. It was a Brevard squirrel!!!  Unfortunately, my camera was packed away in its bag, and I didn't get a chance to take a picture, but it was exciting to see it.  The white squirrels are not albinos (they have dark eyes), and they're protected by city ordinance.  I'd seen a picture of one on flickr, but this was my first real-life sighting.  Krista was unimpressed...

I've always been one to associate songs with travel, and found it fitting that the Stones "Gimme Shelter" came on the radio as we entered Asheville.  I love this town.  It has a good feel to it, and I might just move here one of these days.  We're staying downtown at a loft apartment I'd visited several years ago.

After settling in, we took a walk around.  One of the good things about staying downtown is that you're just steps away from great shops, restaurants, and galleries. We even walked to a grocery store to buy a few provisions for our kitchen while we were out.  There was lots to see.

One of the day's highlights was a visit to French Broad Chocolates.  It was crowded, so we plan to return later in the week.  In the meantime, we purchased this little Easter peep.  He was filled with salted caramel. We ended the day with excellent Japanese food for dinner.Tomorrow it's supposed to be cold and rainy, but we'll deal with it!  I had a photo shoot scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, but have postponed it until later in the week when the sun will (hopefully) come out.

  4. Oh, and can I purchase a copy of that "I can pee on that" picture of cat poems? I know someone who will get the biggest kick out of that.
