Columbus, Mississippi

While visiting my family in Alabama recently, I took a day trip to Columbus, Mississippi.  Only an hour away, the countryside was beautiful and peaceful, even in the wintertime.

Not knowing very much about Columbus, I did a little research and found that it has the second largest collection of Antebellum homes (after Natchez) in the state.  The town sits above the Tombigbee River, and many of these homes have cupolas with views of both the town and the river.  The homes also have names, and they are displayed on front yard signs. I fell in love with Riverview (conveniently for sale).I could hardly stand it when I found out that it's being sold fully furnished, with the original furnishings!
Two greyhound statues grace the front sidewalk.

Front porches and rocking chairs are the norm in this town.  Iced tea, anyone?

Columbus is also the birthplace of playwright Tennessee Williams. The original house was moved downtown, and now serves as the town's Welcome Center.  I wonder what Tennessee would've thought of that!

Downtown is very clean and brightly painted.

Even the industrial areas were nice and neat!

Columbus is also the home of the Mississippi University of Women.

I'm ready to go back and spend more time in Columbus...maybe in the spring or early summer.  I'm sure it'll be gorgeous when it's in full bloom.

Bridal Portraits - Day Two

After shooting out at the ranch, we came back to the city for day two.  The weather continued to cooperate, and Krista worked a whole new style for this session.  What do you think?
Those are vintage hat pins in the bouquet.

Bridal Portraits - Day One

I love photographing weddings...especially the bridal portraits.  Here are some of my favorites from Day One of shooting out in Greenville, Texas.  Thanks, Krista, for being such a beautiful western bride, and thanks, Betsy, for letting us use your ranch!

The little leather purse that Krista is holding belonged to her great-great-grandmother, Lucy Spann.  Lucy Spann's father gave it to her for her fifth birthday, which we believe makes it circa 1894.  It's a beautiful piece, complete with blue glass beading and a silk drawstring cord.

An Afternoon at Betsy's

My friend Betsy lives on an enchanted ranch.  She has a house that makes you feel like you do when you curl up with an old, soft quilt and read your favorite book.   Today was an unseasonably warm winter day, perfect for visiting.  Just look at this front porch!
Once you step inside, you just want to stay forever.  Everywhere you look, there's something unique to see.

If you don't feel like reading, there's a game room that'll knock your socks off!

Betsy and her husband, Tim, have two gorgeous Rhodesian Ridgebacks.  I'm convinced these dogs have the best life ever (after my Rose, of course)!
Being a big fan of the breed, it makes sense to have this tres cool piece of art glass in the master bathroom.
Back outdoors, there's beauty everywhere you turn.

Of course I had Krista, the lovely bride, with me.  Betsy graciously showed us the best places to photograph, but I'll get to those later.  Needless to say, it was one fun shoot! Here's a sneak peek.
They say home is where you hang your hat.  I know Betsy and Tim are proud to hang theirs at the enchanted ranch.  Thanks, Betsy!
