Mule Day!

Some of my friends are not on facebook (shocking, I know!), and they've been asking to see photographs from Mule Day.  My family is fromWinfield, Alabama, and once a year the town hosts "Mule Day."  It consists of a parade of mules, horses, vintage cars and tractors, as well as arts and craft booths and county fair-type food.  I made it back there this year, and it was a photographer's dream.  Lots of fun!  I think my favorite part was getting early up early that day, and going with my father to the registration area for mules and horses.  We walked round in the wet grass, and talked to the people who had come from several states to join in the festivities.

The weather was perfect, and about 20,000 people came to town to enjoy the day.

But of course the mules were the stars of the show!

It's nice to see a bit of small town America, on a pretty autumn day in the deep South.  As Alan Jackson would say, it's "where I come from."







First Monday - Canton, Texas

Every Thursday through Sunday before the first Monday of each month, Canton, Texas hosts one of the largest flea markets in the country.  With space for over 6,000 vendors, it is a junking girl's delight!  I took a hiatus from First Monday during the summer months, because I, personally, don't find it much fun to browse around in 108 degree temperatures.  However, this weekend's weather was too good to stay home!  My friend, Jeanie, and I headed out at 7:15 a.m.  Interstate 20 was packed with vehicles driven by women whose noses were pointing due east.  Cars and trucks were crammed with shopping carts and bags, ready to filled.

Arriving at 8:30, the parking lots were already starting to fill up!

The air was crisp and cool, perfect for a good junkin' day.



Many of the vendors had record-breaking sales on Thursday and Friday, but they came back for more this morning!

There was a huge selection of seasonal decorations today.

We thought this was a Halloween costume, but we were informed in no uncertain terms that it was "lingerie in all sizes from 0 to 3X!!"

As is always the case, there were lots of sweet pups.

"Girls Gone Junkin'" is one of my favorite first Monday stores.  The owners have that certain flair that makes the entire shop a delight.  Take a look at these photos, and tell me if you don't agree!

Whew!  Doesn't that just take your breath away???

Another good shop is the Gypsy Pearl.  These witchy women were working the cash register today!

As always, they had lots of pretties on display!

We continued meandering around, pushing my shopping cart on wheels (which rapidly filled up).  The variety of things for sale was amazing.

After four hours of nonstop junking, we called it quits.  We aren't as young as we used to be, and Jeanie had also spent the entire day there yesterday!  All in all, it was a fine way to spend a Saturday!  Y'all need to join us next time!
